Above photo shows one of the Rittenhouse Mills on a creek close to the homestead. Rags of linen trade of Germantown were brought to the mill along what would become Rittenhouse Street. A 1692 poem celebrating the paper trade reads: "From linen rags good paper doth derive / The first trade keeps the second trade alive."
